Are you sabotaging your Hypothyroidism diet?
You have without doubt heard that it’s more beneficial to consume a few small meals throughout the day (roughly 5-6), than to go without eating and then “stuff” yourself at dinner. But have you ever questioned why this is? If you’re on a hypothyroidism diet plan you probably should.
The reality is your body can only process approximately 300 – 400 calories every hour and a half to 2 hours. Consume more, and you will, in all likelihood, be overloading your gastrointestinal system. Whenever your body can’t utilize all the “fuel” you supply it at any given time, it will utilize what it can (and only what it can), and then store the balance as body fat.
It assumes, through 1000s of years and many generations, that there will be “lean” times when it will need those fat reserves for fuel. But in this day and age we will (thankfully) rarely ever face those lean times.
Because of this, if we’re to keep our weight from spiraling out of control, we must, not only limit our quantities of food, but also the sorts of food we eat.
So, how do we apply this fact in trying to slim down while on a hypothyroidism diet?
It’s actually quite easy if you think about it. Consume less during each meal, but just eat more often. There are many benefits to using this strategy. First, you’re only providing your body what it requires, when it requires it.
Second, you’ll be able to better sustain a more consistent blood sugar level, and so you’re not left feeling tired all day.
And by making certain wise and healthful choices, you’ll discover that the 350 – 400 calorie limitation can and will be quite satisfying once you get used to it. Make poor choices, however, and you will be left feeling unsatisfied and guilty for letting yourself down.
So be sure to select healthy types of foods such as fruits & vegetables and limit your consumption of breads & cereals (these calories can add up fast). Also, when including meat in the diet, try to choose only healthy, low-fat chicken, turkey and fish.
These simple tips, if applied faithfully to your hypothyroidism diet plan, will aid you in accomplishing your weight loss goals.
